Experienced Darwin Marriage and Event Celebrant
Helping others to achieve their goals and dreams is what I enjoy most. I believe I have achieved this through my knowledge and experience in education, business and sport, and by daring to be different. I was born on Thursday Island, Queensland, Australia, and arrived in Darwin at age 3 months when my parents returned after the Second World War. I am of mixed nationalities – Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Filipino, Chinese and Malayan – many of whose customs and traditions I cherish and appreciate. I was educated at St Mary’s School.
Illustrious Sports Career
In the years since leaving school, I have been a small business owner/operator/director in the industries of insurance, loss adjusting, retail shops, martial arts, sports administration, coaching, event organiser, property investments, real estate, and training and assessment. Sports, particularly hockey and basketball, were an integral part of my life. I became a sports administrator, representative player, coach and referee, and have been Chairperson, organiser/coordinator for numerous other sporting events. Highlights include being awarded The Order of Australia Medal, the Australian Sports Medal and being inducted into the Northern Territory Sports Hall of Fame.
Creating The Foundation For Everlasting Love
Since becoming a Celebrant, I have enjoyed meeting couples and assisting and advising them of the legalities involved in marrying, as well as assisting them with the design of their ceremony.
I have been fortunate to conduct marriage ceremonies which included some cultural customs and traditions of the couples’ country. For example, Filipina, Indian and Chinese. I have also included some small ceremonies to include children and step-children, Candle Lighting and Blending of Sands.
My Interests
My interests include mentoring and helping others, especially young people, to set and achieve goals. I also enjoy researching history; sports, dressmaking, writing; gardening; spending time with my family.
I am blessed with 7 brothers and five sisters, 5 children and 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and umpteen nieces and nephews.
